This presentation, also at OTUG in Minneapolis, reviews the short history of the software development profession and why there is so much dissatisfaction and disenchantment with the results produced by software professionals. Two alternative futures: stay the course and become irrelevant; or, radically reinvent the profession are explored along with the means to accomplish the radical reinvention.
